Triumph of the Cross

Today, September 14th, the Church celebrates the Feast of the Triumph of the Cross.

"We preach Christ crucified - a stumbling block to Jews and an absurdity to Gentiles; but to those who are called, Jews and Greeks alike, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God."  1 Corinthians 23 - 24.

GOD OUR FATHER, IN OBEDIENCE TO YOU YOUR ONLY SON ACCEPTED DEATH ON THE CROSS FOR THE SALVATION OF MANKIND.  WE ACKNOWLEDGE THE MYSTERY OF THE CROSS ON EARTH.  MAY WE RECEIVE THE GIFT OF REDEMPTION IN HEAVEN. WE ASK THIS THROUGH OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, YOUR SON, WHO LIVES AND REIGNS WITH YOU AND THE HOLY SPIRIT,  ONE GOD,  FOR EVER AND EVER. AMEN.

Candlemas

Today the Church celebrates the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord in the Temple, traditionally called Candlemas since on this day the candles which are to be used in the Church and by the faithful are blessed for the next year.

Almighty and everliving God, we humbly pray that, as Your only begotten Son was this day presented in the Temple, so we may be presented to You with pure and clean hearts by Jesus Christ Our Lord; who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Solemnity of Christ the King

Today is the last Sunday of Ordinary Time on which the Church celebrates the Solemnity of Christ the King.

Almighty and everlasting God, whose will it is to restore all things in your well-beloved Son, the King of kings and Lord of lords: Mercifully grant that the peoples of the earth, divided and enslaved by sin, may be freed and brought together under His most gracious rule; who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
