Saints Marcellinus and Peter, Martyrs

Pope Damasus is our authority for the martyrdoms of Saints Marcellinus and Peter during the Diocletian persecution. He received this information from the executioner himself. They were beheaded in a grove, but their bodies were moved and buried in the cemetary Ad duas Lauros on the Via Labicana. Once peace had been restored, the Church built a basilica over their tombs.

Father, may we benefit from the example of Your martyrs Marcellinus and Peter, and be supported by their prayers. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
